EP1 + 14-42 + Fall in New York City

Shots taken around some parks in Staten Island. EP1 and the kit zoom for these.I was shooting RAW+JPEG using the Pop Art filter. While I loved the look, I felt the perhaps (nah....) the Fall colors in the Pop Art shots were maybe a bit overdone. These were all developed in Lightroom. Only made some small adjustments to vibrance and contrast.
Opinions?
Thanks for looking,
Steve

I like them a lot...
Hi Steve
The colors are really unique I think plus they seem to have a nice sharpness to them. It really seems Oly has made a statement with the EP1. Last week I went passed one of my fav cam shops and speaking to the guy there he made the statement saying...look at the EP1, its great at high ISO.... Its something you would not hear in the past.
Personally I am close to the point which I will make the change. I am thinking of letting my E420 plus the G1 go and to them replace it with the EP1. I was thinking a lot about taking the GF1 from Panny but I do not have the confidence that the GF1 will have that LX3 or L10 apeal. In addition I seem to like the Oly lenses more, they just seem to be the better quality....
My said cams will most prop be listed this week....
Best

Thanks Siegfried.
Sometimes people speak about the "Olympus Color" and I think "yeah OK", but then other times I have to agree. Could you tweak images from other companies - of course. But Oly just makes the process easier - at least for me.
I have not missed my E420 (which the EP1 replaced) and have not used the E30 since the little guy arrived. What I would LOVE is for Olympus to put together something like the Pana GH1 - bit larger, rotating LCD, high quality EVF, flash, etc. Then I would sell my E30. But right now I am very happy.
BTW - in case you have not been reading the rumors, Oly is supposed to announce something within the next few days (at some camera show in Europe) and it will probably be the followup to the EP1. Has a lot of people pissed because either they got the EP1 and are seeing an "upgraded" model released so soon or they wanted something different (supposedly the more "pro" model). Can't please everyone,
Steve

Re: EP1 + 14-42 + Fall in New York City
I think it would be cruel for Oly to release a new M4/3s so soon, it is nice to own the best a company has to offer even if it is just for a short while, it should be a year though!
These up-grades are too little too often.
However even if the next one is amazing, I can't think it would be so different, it will still take the same image at 100-800 iso it might be better after that and it may have quicker focusing, so that wouldn't have changed the great shots seen above! I love the natural look to the colours, it could be England.
I like the idea of a small large sensor cam, but I have to get some glass first.

Simon - while to some extent I agree with you about "upgrades" but in this case I think we can blame the buying public posting on the various forums and reviewers for this update. Everyone was complaining about the lack of an EVF on the EP1 - probably the one single biggest and most vocal complaint. Not generally the actual OWNERS (like me) were not that vocal - they knew what they were buying into and were happy enough with the camera.
I don't think that Oly is putting out this model to get EP1 users to upgrade - I know I am not really interested unless the other specs on the camera are significantly improved over the EP1.

Steve,
I don't think the colors are over-the-top at all. (If you've seen any of my photos, you'll know that I do like color.) The color of the water is interesting.
For me, your photos show Autumn the way it should be.
The upgrade reminds me of that event with the Nikon D40 and D40X and, possibly, the Sigma DP1 and DP2 and the time frame involved with both. But then, the market is upgrade happy. Pardon me while I go shopping now.
There has to some affordable upgrade for me out there somewhere.
Phil

Re: EP1 + 14-42 + Fall in New York City
Steve I also like the colors, the EP1 is definately a good camera and capable. I have basically made up my mind to get the EP 1. The nextstep was to go get one. A quick search on the web and I had my answer, the two lens kit is basically a no brainer.
Then the tinking process started. The one thing I just cannot ignore is the high price asked for these micro 4/3rd cams. As you know I have the G1, wich will be sold for the EP1, and if I read the posts plus if I look at the pics then I just cannot see myself paying the price.....
I then did a quick search for the new G11 plus the LX3. At half the price I can get any of the two. Picture quality.....I know the LX3 and that's great and I read the G11 is better on IQ. Added advantage is if I get the G11 then I can most probably boost the site again....
As a last option my eye then wondered off and saw a new mini Mac with the new spec and Huh, for the above type of money I can get a new Mac as desktop....I can then basically switch over 100% to Mac.
I know its not your problem all this and lucky you have the EP1 and do not have to think anymore....
The EP2...personally I will get the EP1 because I sort off trust the EP1 today....
