Post by Siegfried on Sat 29 Aug - 19:51:20

Hi Folks

Please feel free the discuss the Beta version of the new HDR software. I have also invited the developer to take part in the discussion.....

See the front "home" page for a link to the Beta software....

The beta will become a full product end Sept 2009?

Guys to help the discussion going.....send me your best HDR every week and I will place the best on the from page every week...

Re: New HDR Software

Hello Guys

I am a little surprised that its so quite. I was thinking, most probably you think....now I must find a good spot, get out my tripod....I have not done this before....what pics should I use....or can I use a RAW file?

Tomorrow I will upload three differently exposed pics to my Fotki account. You can then download those to try with this new software.

The operation of the HDR software is really simple....all you do is load the three pics click OK and off it goes. It then presents a "working" pic, you then select ToneMapping and a new screen comes on. The tone mapping is the easiest I saw to date....really uncomplicated. That done and the final pic can be saved....HDR pics have never been this easy....

By the way I have absolutely no connection with the developer....

The good thing with me supplying three differently exposed pics.....all our results should be reasonably similar plus you will quickly see something interesting person B did....

Are you interested?

OK I have three bracketed pics ready for you.....

If you go to my Fotki space then you will see several albums, the one right at the bottom called "Projects" is where you will find all the pictures for this project.

Initially when you click on the link you will see a error message. Ignore that and click on the "Albums" menu on the left....that will list all the albums I have in Fotki.

Finally, if you open the picture, you need to select the link to the righ that says "Go to the original picture". It will down load the original picture to your screen, right click on that and save it.

Apologies for the complicated process....

My own result using the three bracketed pics plus feedback...

  • I like the format (workflow) the software offers. I also like the natural look it offers.
  • I did notice moving the sliders more aggressively does bring out the typical HDR look and I think that is great.
  • I would like to see a color management option....I like to use the same file I use in Photoshop to calibrate my work....
  • I could only export to CS3 and not to PSE7
  • I really like the option to adjust the final color of the picture inside HDR Darkroom
  • I would like to see a pop up window with a short description of each slider when placing my mouse over the slider button.
  • I also like the option using more than three pics building the HDR
  • Question? Does one only use one of the three tone map enjines per project?
While writing this I quickly did another using 5 bracketed pics....
