Yes the monopod is very useful.
I mainly use mine with my video camera, but with a long lens it can give you a 2-3 stop advantage teamed with VR it allows low light photography without raising the ISO.

monopod
I did use a monopod before, actualy it is a telescoping walking stick, some of them have a double use like mine. On public transport people offer easier there seat if they see that you need a walking stick. So take of your camera before taking a bus! But it is also useful in photography indeed.

Re: One leg tripod....
I use an extending walking stick all the time....for walking of course, but rapidly extended to support my binoculars or G9.
I never use a monopod for my DSLR but for the G9 it is perfect and allows me to grab shots that I could not handhold at all.

With the monopod or walkingstick and the G7 you can make pictures high above your had if you use the timer for some seconds. With a little luck it can become interesting!
Lets have a fun! Who will be the first to edit here an example?

Re: Monopod
To monopod or not to monopod, that is the question!
Since owning Canon Powershot compacts (G3 & G7) I have not thought too much about tripods but now, as an Olympus E-510 user, my trusty Cullmann Video Camera tripod/monopod has been retrieved from a deep and dark cupboard (unused for many years) and the monopod section being light and portable has been pressed into use
. Very cool indeed esp the quick release camera feature.

Looks like a very interesting monopod
I like the head on the monopod Vic, maybe a little big but it must be very comfortable to work with.
Many modern monopods multitask as walking sticks today.
Best

Hi Siegfried -
Yes a very good head indeed, special for smooth panning and tilt with a video camera. It has an adjustable damper to control panning smoothness.
I agree it looks rather bulky but it is fairly lightweight - made from a very durable composition material - the metal parts are alloy.
Wouldn't want to carry it overland & up mountains though
(even if I could).
Regards...Vic
ps This type of tripod falls into Simon's territory.
