New GF1 Micro 4Thirds from Panasonic

Post by Siegfried on Wed 2 Sep - 12:26:39

Guys I know what I like to say but.....

See I really like the new G11.....the price of the new S90 is very attractive, the LX3 istill available and my G1 will go to the market soon. I really like the Panny look and JPEG engine....Steve made me very curious about the EP-1....the pics comming of my E3 is awesome....I agree the G7 was one of the best and still is....we never needed more than 10MP plus I think the one from Sigma is also a great option......

Like I said...I think you understand

I am waiting for panny or oly to add a EVF like Rioch had where it slides in to the hotshoe. Look out for Leica with the M9 0n the 9/9/09

Hi Siegfried,
I guess the rumors about the Pana are now official. That add-on EVF is very interesting also.
I am very happy with the EP1, and I personally prefer Olympus over Panasonic. (Part is I like the output of the Oly pics better and part is I like seeing "Olympus" on my camera rather than "Panasonic" - stupid but that is me.)
However, it Olympus has stated that they are working on two more micro 4/3 cameras - one supposedly to be priced below the EP1 and one more advanced. If the "more advanced" one has: an EVF (even if it is bigger than the EP1 and looks more like a traditional SLR) and better AF system (faster in good light and better in low light) I would seriously consider going fully into the micro 4/3 world and be very happy.
(Though I must admit that little lens on the GF1 looks very intriguing!!!)

Bingo, another nail in the coffin of my bank account.
That EVF is sweet.

Hi Simon - speaking of bank account, did you see how much that little EVF is going to run? I believe I read on another site somewhere in the area of $250 to $300 US. And from what I have read, the quality is nowhere near that of the LCD on the back or even the EVF that Pana used on the G1/GH1. We will just have to see.

Don't worry Siegfried - I already read about it. And yes - it would be nice if the EP1 had that option (but perhaps not at that additional cost). But both cameras have their plusses and minuses. So far I have had absolutely no problems with the "low quality/low pixel count/older generation" LCD that Olympus used on the EP1 in any lighting and whether using AF or Manual Focusing. Would I have liked the option of the EVF, yeah - was it a deal breaker for me, nope.

If I had the cash I would get the Ep-1 but I don't so I won't.
All my spare money is being saved for a D300 so I am stuck with the G7 but that's not so bad, I could take pictures with that for the rest of my life and be happy.
The important thing is that Panny and Oly are making interesting new style cameras and selling them, this will force Nikon and Canon to come back with an answer. Leica have.

I think if I had to be in the shop I would also walk out with the Oly. Its always the case....all that technical review, data searching......and once bought most of the time much of all the critical functions never has as much significance as what it had during the research stage.....

Its like Steve says, not once did all the "low spec parts" hindered him taking great pics......

I am slowly getting to know my own G1. Interesting is that it does not have the same excitement factor as what the LX3 had. I have not had a pic jumping of the screen yet. It could be the camera and it could be me....

Simon, personally I think you do the right thing saving for the D300, why not get the D300s while you at it....? -talking about pics jumping of the screen, everytime I use my E3.....apart from the sheer fun factor, the pics just are....awesome.....there is something about a reall big camera....

Best

D300 second-hand. I try not to buy new gear. G7 was the only cam I got new, its more fun doing a deal and tracking down a bargain. The real problem is shall I sell my D80?

I would still like to see a much simpler camera, I tried again to use a Panasonic P&S a TZ3 great camera but only auto, I just can't get the hang of just auto, too many button presses to get to EV comp. I like analog stuff like dials and switches.
I would love a digi cam with controls like my old Nikon FE its so easy to use.
A dial for aperture, one shutter speed, one for ISO, one for EV comp. with each of these dials having a auto setting. They offer too much on small cameras and make them too complicated and slow to use.
Ah but, you say, Leica have the M9 (and X1 Panny copy) coming out, yes but its too big too heavy and way toooooo expensive.

Bad news guys.....I made a bid on a LX3 to see what is the end price when the bidding is done.....once done one cannot see the end price on a local web site in Switzerland called ricardo.ch

Well not reading the full story I ended winning the bid and I bought a LX3 in working condition but with a dead screen for 120 USD.....

Coming home tonight from a travel I un-packed the the LX3....

What should I do.....send it to Panny for repair? or....put it back on Ricardo?....or give it to a known electronic expert fixing things like cell phones and more?

Please help...I was thinking selling G1 plus E420 to be my start for saving for the new Panny....

I think you might be lucky and a friendly expert might fix for very little cash. Its labor costs that make camera repair expensive, parts are quite cheap.
