She is lovely and a great participant in your hobby. (Wish my wife would be this patient with me!!!)
Don't wish to be repetitive, but I still think the "high key" is a bit over done. You are starting to lose some of the details in the highlights. Now I realize that might have been your intention all along, just my personal taste.

Special portrait

Post by ardo on Mon 6 Apr - 22:46:04

Hi Siegfried

Very Interesting and creative pose I love you . Let me say that I agree with what was said by the other folks. But for me there are two points that I would like to make.

1- Her left arm is lost in the background and particularly her shoulder. This is a serious visual distraction for my eyes, that are too much attracted by this omission.
2- An over-exposed shot, with a kind of magenta cast......, May I ask if this was an intentionnal color shift, or not ? confused

Please take theses comments as a way to make me understand what you wanted to show or express in this pic.

Have a nice day

Luc, not much thought went into the pic.....I had the settings to produce something I wanted and liked....the info on the pic was enough and I was happy with the look.....the picture was basically "talking" to me.

I see all the coments and are very happy with the feedback and the thoughts....something that developed over time here plus of great value today....thanks all for your feedback.

What you fail to tell me is...does this pictures work for you?? Not from a technical point of view but only from a "picture" point of view....?

Best

From a picture POV I would like a touch more room camera left for the model to look in to. I would clone out the fabric by her right elbow.
I like the Hi Key look, did you have a colourama backdrop?

I also liked the picture.....knowing that its over exposed way to much I still enjoyed just the picture.

Little background:-

I was doing a "shoot" with my daughter and by accident this one happened. The background was a river plus I was shooting into the sun. The water had a sharp reflection and I thought lets use the build in flash and see what happens. The sync speed was 1/60 and I knew this could become interesting and it did. I used a special diffuser unit that fits in front the flash to prevent that hard flash look. The aperture was about 4,5.

In RAW I pulled back the exposure, increased contrast using curves plus did sharpening and left it as is......

For those who do not know, the Oly camera has a "hi key" metering mode. This helps the photographer to get a similar look as the one I showed here. Last night my son asked me to take a few pics of him and at one stage I had him standing against a white wall. I then changed the camera to Hi Key Spot and got the same result as the pic with my duaghter, only diff is I did not use the flash......

I think from a picture only this could have a lot of potential.....oft we way to technical taking pictures....

For fill in flash as you will know Sigi, Shutter speed controls the ambient light, the aperture* controls the flash.
* plus distance to subject.
When using fill flash I like to meter for the ambient light then back it off 1 stop on the shutter speed, this gives a good starting point for your exposure.

Hi Steve

I like the Hi Key type look and now that I started experimenting I feel like doing more.....

I saw some that really had great definition....

Can we do a few examples together?
